The 1st china international exposition of audio-visual industry (CIEAVI 2004) was successfully held from September 26 to 29, 2004 in Guangzhou Jinhan Exhibition Center. The exposition was the trade platform of international audio-visual industry and built the bridge of communication and collaboration between nations in the field of international audio-visual industry. In the meantime, it was the largest scale audio-visual exhibition of the highest level in china.

There were 226 companies attending the CIEAVI 2004 which rented 18000-square-meter exhibition place in total and served around 15000 person-times of acquisition executives. During the course of the CIEAVI 2004, around 34000 pieces of contracts or letters intent had been made, which counted up to one billion RMB or so.

Industry system is complete in range, exhibitors and buyers gather together to build up an international audio-visual industry trade platform

The exhibitors were from different sections of the audio-visual industry. Apart from publisher and distributors, there were audio-visual production companies, reproduction companies, packaging companies, film companies, record companies, TV stations and so on. With the full range of the industry system, the exhibition has set up a large-scale exposition gathering relevant companies and sections with the exhibition of audio-visual products and film/television program and copyright trade as the principal part of the CIEAVI.

Almost all the big companies in china and many famous international companies and organizations in the field of audio-visual industry had attended the Expo. National companies included state-own large-scale companies like China International TV Corp., China Record Corporation, and Shanghai Media Group and a great many of active private audio-visual companies. Besides, there were many companies from different countries and regions, such as America, Britain, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan China. The influential international record and film companies also attended as exhibitors, which included the five international record companies (Universal Music, Sony Music, BMG, EMI Music and Warner Music) and the seven film companies (Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, MGM Studios Inc., Paramount Pictures Corporation, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLLP and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.), the members of Motion Picture Association(MPA).

The acquisition executives were from home and abroad, such as America, Britain, France, Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Kuwait, Australia, South Africa, and so on. Some of the visitors are influential in the field. They were principals of IFPI, MPA, RIAJ, BBC, Sony Music, EMI Music Group, Avex Group, MIDEM, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Television Broadcast Limited (HK).

While having the Expo, the CIEAVI committee held a series of activities including Senior Forum of International Audio-Visual Industry, Public Lecture on China’s Policies and Laws on Audio-Visual Products, Awards on National Excellent Audio-Visual Products and Distributors, and Conference on Developing Guangdong Audio-Visual Distribution Industry & Founding the Chamber of Commerce of Guangdong Audio-Visual Distribution Industry. The activities improved the communication and interaction between government and industry, experts and operators both home and abroad.

“My September”, the series of culture activities, which was plan and organized for the CIEAVI, completely showed the nation style and the features of regions. In the meantime, it presented the view of our time. With the series of activities, we not only made the Expo a grand gathering of international audio-visual industry but made the Chinese and Cantonese cultures understood by the world and a festival for all the participants and the citizens.
